Meet Shara Goudreau, Ph.D., LMHC-QS

Trauma, Anxiety, Self-Esteem & EMDR Certified Therapist for Women in Boca Raton and throughout Florida and Connecticut

You can feel more confident, calm, and connected to yourself and your relationships.

You are tired of carrying a heavy load and pretending that you’ve got it all figured out. While you have always been a support for others, behind that smile you are tired of feeling anxious, unseen, and disconnected from yourself and your relationships. You recognize it’s time to take care of you and you are ready to feel more confident, calm, and connected to yourself and your relationships.
Shara Goudreau, Therapist in Florida and Connecticut

I work with women with a history of trauma who are struggling with anxiety and self-esteem to stop feeling empty and self-critical and to feel more confident, calm, and connected with themselves and their relationships.

I believe that safety and trust within the therapeutic relationship is paramount to the work and outcomes of therapy. My primary focus in the beginning stages of therapy is to create a warm and secure space that allows us to build that trust and safety.

To help build this trust, I lift the therapist curtain and show up authentically and as a person. I work hard to build a connection person-to-person, to fully hear and to see you. My goal is to understand your lived experiences from your lens. I will always meet you where you are with kindness, compassion, and respect.

Secondly, I believe that you have the innate ability to work towards your greatest potential. My role as a counselor is to help you find solutions that align with your dreams and to build trust and confidence in yourself.

How I Work

I believe that therapy shouldn’t be a mystery. The more informed and involved you are in the process, the more you will get out of the experience. Using my extensive training and education, I will provide you with knowledge, offer my professional recommendations and opinions, and then empower and support you to make decisions that align with your goals and treatment in therapy.

This is your space to finally let down the armor and allow yourself to be truly seen.

The coping skills that once served you aren’t working as well as they used to. I believe you are doing the best you can, but you feel stuck and you aren’t sure how to move forward.

Let me help. My extensive education and training have provided me with effective tools such as EMDR and Ego States therapy, to help you overcome the challenges you are facing with trauma, anxiety, and self-esteem.

You deserve to feel heard and to seek treatment from a counselor with the expertise to support you in your healing journey.

Client’s describe me as safe, validating, and supportive. I work hard to build and maintain a strong working alliance where clients are encouraged to be fully seen, respected, and valued.

Core Values

Did you know that most therapy outcomes are tied to the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist? It makes sense- if you don’t feel comfortable with your therapist then it will be challenging to build that trust and feel safe to do the hard work. Safety and security are paramount in the working alliance and it takes time to build that trust. These guiding principles inform my practice and work with clients.

Safety

Creating a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space that encourages personal growth.

Trust

Modeling healthy boundaries, consistency, and authenticity to build trust.

Transparency

Remaining honest and open in the work we do together.

Collaboration

Working together to find the solutions that work best for you.

Respect

Believing, seeing, and treating you as a person of dignity.

Empowerment

Encouraging and supporting you through your healing journey.

Methods / How I Work

EMDR Therapy

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you heal from distressing memories and events thus allowing you to live more fully in the present.

Ego States

I incorporate Ego State Therapy throughout the course of treatment to help you better understand your personality, feel more empowered to manage your emotions, and develop healthy self-esteem.

CBT & Mindfulness

I integrate various CBT models such as ACT and DBT to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I weave in the practice of mindfulness to help you feel grounded and effective putting the coping and interpersonal skills learned in therapy outside of sessions.

When we are truly seen and valued for who we are there are no limits to what we can achieve.

I believe that you are the expert on your life and I am here as a support and facilitator. I believe it’s important to empower you to make decisions about your life and your treatment in therapy. As your therapist, I will encourage and support you to explore the resources, answers, and strengths within to develop the goals and solutions that work best for you.

I believe that you have the innate ability to work towards your greatest potential. My role as a counselor is to help you find solutions that align with your dreams and to build trust and confidence in yourself. Reach out today, your infinite potential awaits.
